Located outside the entrance of the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (Scottsdale, AZ), I hope to convey the idea of the sounds of people gathering outside SMoCA on an opening night. Using recordings from current and historical political characters, the listener may question what they are hearing. Is the conversation joyful or anxious?
As this election gets nearer, our news feeds are increasingly filled with the noise of politicians, pundits, and scandals. The pandemic certainly adds to the collective anxiety of American life in 2020. More than ever we are in need of comfort from others, and some escape from the news of the day. This compilation of 80+ news and audio clips from the past year attempts to capture the sounds of a lively opening night at SMoCA, but the listener may question what they are hearing.
